[chan] general
Apr 20 06:36 [raw]

Federated and pseudonymous. On a scale from Facebook webchat (0) to Bitmessage+OTR (10), I'd score it an honest 7.

[chan] general
Apr 20 10:00 [raw]

What's Bitmessage+OTR?

[chan] general
Apr 20 10:19 [raw]

Bitmessage+PGP with changing keys.

[chan] general
Apr 20 11:34 [raw]

LOL typo, I meant Bitmessage+TOR. Wouldn't THAT be nice though? Bitmessage+TOR+OTR FTW! (searching github for Python OTR libraries right now)

[chan3] general
Apr 20 14:48 [raw]

OTR is a bit different than PGP. OTR is a way to encrypt a conversation with both FS and plausible deniability. PGP offers neither of those.

[chan] general
Apr 21 03:06 [raw]

Off-the-record messaging, it wasn't made to work with Bitmessage, just online chat programs. I suppose some one could implement it, but it seems useless since Bitmessage is not real-time... also OTR uses a static DH parameter that we assume the NSA can crack by now.

TOR is a massive fuckup in action. You may as well put a sign up on your house saying "Hey feds, come arrest me"

[chan] general
Apr 21 12:45 [raw]

Why would you say that? Tor is a security software that performs a very specific function, which makes it an important element in any network security infrastructure. It's not perfect but I'm not aware of any alternative software that comes even close in safety and performance. Also, not sure what you mean about feds and arrest, must be something specific to your country. Where are you from?

[chan] general
Apr 21 13:06 [raw]

Not sure whether he is in the states, or australia. However, TOR is solely focused on latency, and not on security. It is also well known as being riddled with law enforcement monitors on bad nodes.

[chan] general
Apr 21 13:09 [raw]

Probably from the US. I'm not sure any other country calls government agents "feds".

[chan] general
Apr 21 13:40 [raw]

Could also be Australia, Brazil, Switzerland, Mexico, maybe others.. Germany? None of them have applicable laws in this case. More likely, the "feds" could be a generic appeal to the concept of "organized bad guys with get-out-of-jail badges" in Internet culture, which is somewhat US-centric. Could be some place like Myanmar or Uzbekistan, or maybe one of the current conflict zones. Curiouser and curiouser. OP, care to comment on our guesses so far? Pinky promise we won't rat you to your big scary "feds". :)

Apr 21 14:51 [raw]

Couldn't be Aussie since they've become a fully castrated, compliant population.

I don't know, mate, there are lots of sheep for sure, then you got some world class blokes like Eric Young (eay from SSLeay), Peter Guttmann, Rusty Russell, Andrew Tridgell, that's just off the top of my head. Also Matt Johnston the Dropbear SSH guy. Hell I'll throw in Assange and Craig fuckin' Wright to stir the trolls a bit. I think for a country with less people than Texas, you're doing alright. But yeah, fuckin sheep mate, I'll give you that. Did they ban cryptography yet? :)

Sheep? Hey let's leave NZ outta this, pal.
