BM <-> TOR

Hello! I have a question. I use BM through TOR on a quite slow internet connection. Is it normal, that BM looses the connection very often? The status changes from yellow to red. Every hour a few times. It always takes minutes until it connects again. Is it possible to attack/deanonymize users on that way?

No, it is not normal but this has not been reported in a while because most people have switched to running the latest source code instead of waiting for the next half-yearly release.

Which version?

Yes. Pay attention to the tor entries. There will be a gradual QoS change to funnel traffic into one, even if others remain up. Run torsocks whois commands through it also. get a feel for what the exits are doing, and the variations (if any), by other means. There are peering group de-anon attacks for easy traffic correlation as it gets modulated by the edge routers not necessary under the control of the service owner. Then there are plenty of games possible re-establishing a deliberately broken ssl connection network "teleported" into a bubble that has packet injection capability. "Have I been relocated somewhere nasty for close observation" should be the questions asked. The means used to get the answers is a bigger essay.

Yes, it is. I totally agree with you there.

No. OP here using chan key for anonymity. But those that know me will recognize the email style [..]

0.6.2 (the script, not exe if that matters) To be honest I would rather use 0.4.4 again, where the GUI reacted much faster.

Try the development code from github (master branch for more tested, v0.6 for the most bleeding edge), it has a new networking code. Peter Surda Bitmessage core developer

Try maxoutboundconnections = 2 or maxoutboundconnections = 3 Default is 8 and it may be to high on slow connection.

Even at the best of times, connecting to Bitmessage through Tor can be slow and unreliable. It isn't ideal, but it does offer the best privacy.

Use trustedpeer = quzwelsuziwqgpt2.onion:8444 and others from knownnodes.dat. It will be fast connect. In every p2p everything is unreliable. BM hasn't got function to block bad nodes. I have a domain in onion and it works good with BM.
