Namecoin integration

Hi, How can I have an easy address in Bitmessage? I downloaded Namecoin and bought some Namecoins. What do I have to do now?

Nobody knows. It's been kept a secret, and there is no documentation about Namecoin integration. If you do find out how to do it, post the information on here.

Let's wait for Peter's answer.

Just add your bitmessage address to your namecoin identity like any other address. From https://wiki.namecoin.info/?title=Identity bitmessage Public Bitmessage address associated to the identity. { "bitmessage": "BM-orkCbppXWSqPpAxnz6jnfTZ2djb5pJKDb" }

Not Peter, but the Namecoin integration is broken at the moment, at least with the latest 0.15.99 release. It USED to work previously. You'd enable Namecoin RPC and input the credentials, and then in the "to" field for a bitmessage message, you'd just enter the namecoin name e.g. "id/yourname", and if that namecoin name had a dictionary key "bitmessage", the value of that key would get auto-pasted into the "to" field after you moved the cursor out of it. I used it a number of times with a few people who also have Namecoin identities. But... it's not working at the moemnt. I don't know why, I haven't bothered to look at the source code for it. All I know is that in the settings, the test button keeps saying failure.

I'll review it, I don't have a working namecoin installation anymore, the old one broke due to libdb ugprade or something. Peter Surda Bitmessage core developer

Support for namecoind is broken but nmcontrol should work

The source: https://github.com/Bitmessage/PyBitmessage/blob/master/src/namecoin.py#L135 No more getinfo in modern namecoin versions. I suggest to try getnetworkinfo instead. Peter, for blockchains it is better to install bdb 4.8.

Did you have to have Namecoin core installed? Maybe their new lightweight client [0] could be integrated into Bitmessage now? Although I guess it'd be more secure to have the full Namecoin node. [0] https://namecoin.org/2017/11/30/spv-lookup-0.2.7-beta-1.html

Excuse me but I don't see any 0.15.99 release. namecoind reports version 0.15.99 (built from arbitrary commit from 0.14 branch) but actually on github: https://github.com/namecoin/namecoin-core/releases there is some 0.15.99 Name Tab Beta 2, 0.13 release candidate 1, 0.12 rc2. So weird naming scheme.
